"Great meeting place. While the grandson of the owner can induce some prejudices, Jim has a solid facility that is a recording of white stone. Lunch items I recommend are the burgers, Philly cheese steak and the Italian sausage Sub with mushrooms, peppers and onions. You'll order a sandwich. They also make pizzas that, as a former employee, we always have a high standard, they are made of Ciabatta bread and are quite good. You can also pick up beer, wine and some selected foods such as.bread while waiting for order."

River Market is absolutely the best in the northern neck! Jim and Mary are wonderful and their lunches and dinners are so delicious- crab cake and salmon are my favorites. My sister loves all of their homemade soups. The store always has hard to find items and great to go options to keep the entire family happy!

I bought a $8 crab cake from Jim. Got it home. Baked at 400 on a sheet tray for 9 minutes, tilted and baked for 5 minutes. Perfection. Not a bunch of filler. Legite crab and reasonable other ingredients. Not Mayonnaisey. And now I understand why this woman bought in Bulk before me. (More information: I added tomatoes from Dug Inn Farm Market and Chablis from the excellent wine business in Kilmarnock. Each of these things, tomatoes, wine, crab cake, could have stood alone. But why? Jim, I'm back.

"This place was an awesome place to get brunch on our way home from enjoying the river. They have a great view of the Rappahannock River and some great fish options as well. For the record, I was ready to give this place a two star rating, however the waitress really saved it for us. Food and everything was great, however our ticket was lost so we didn't get our food until about an hour in and watched tables around us get their food before us. The waitress was very nice about this and told us that our bill would be half off. However, when we got our bill, they only took off our coffees, which were a whopping $1.50 each. A $3.00 discount for their mistake and an hour long wait didn't seem too generous to us, especially when half off was promised upfront. When I asked the waitress about it, she said that's what her manager offered even though that's not what she wanted. I asked her to go back and try again and she was able to work some magic and get us the half-off that was mentioned earlier. I think even though she got herself into a little predicament by promising us something that the manager wasn't interested in, I think she did a great job responding and doing what was right, and giving us a better deal for the long wait and the mistake on their end. I can't say the same for the restaurant manager... So, because of good business practices by the waitress and good food, I would recommend this place and would go back. I had the crab and shrimp omelette and it was awesome! Also, patio is dog friendly, they were great to our pups."

"What an experience! We went for an anniversary celebration on a Sunday evening and chose The Colonnade at Hope and Glory for our special dinner. Knowing ahead of time that it was a prix fixe menu my husband worked with Heather to discuss some food intolerances limitations I had and prepared some alternatives to the menu. I could not have been more thrilled with what Chef Crockett chose. They are incredibly conscientious of peoples particular requirements and are more than happy to accommodate specific needs. Fresh made rolls with butter and rosemary from their garden, baked oysters with pesto and asaggio cheese melted on top, and vichyssoise soup with fresh chives, also from their garden to start. Our entrees included lump meat crab cakes with only a delicious aioli to hold it together, no fillers. For me, salmon with a delicious lemon and mustard sauce, both entrees accompanied by ratatouille and also glazed carrots for my husband. And to complete the meal, for desert a chocolate mousse with fresh whipped cream for me and a fabulous raisin filled bread pudding with sauce drizzled on top for my husband. Each course was paired with excellent wines and a bit of tawny port at the end to sip with desert. We have lived and traveled outside the US numerous times and we are hard pressed to think of another dining experience that compares to the ambience, the service, the quality and presentation of the food and the total experience that we enjoyed at The Colonnade. Once dinner was complete Chef Crockett came out to introduce herself. She could not have been more delightful, sharing that she began her cooking journey in Vienna, Austria where we discovered we lived very near where she had also lived, just a few years prior to us. From there it was on to formal French training and eventually on to Irvington where we were very lucky to meet her. If you ever looking for an opportunity to celebrate a special occasion, want a wonderful, intimate restaurant to enjoy a fine dining experience then look no further than The Colannade at Hope and Glory in Irvington, Virginia. It created a wonderful memory for us that we look forward to returning to on another occasion."
