"After a snorkel on a speed boat tour, we stopped by this restaurant. It was January 1st, and other restaurants nearby were all closed. This is such a cute restaurant, a bit hidden, and has a great view of the harbor outside. It took quite a while until we received our food but since we were tired from the tour and the view from our seats outside was beautiful, we didn't mind waiting. Calamari was smaller amount than I expected but they were tasty. My fish tacos were good also."

If I could give it 0 stars, I would have. The food was gross, over fried and all frozen. I relied on the reviews and unfortunately, I think it were all fake! No way 120 reviews and everyone gave 4's and 5's, completely bogus. The food was over priced and skimpy. Avoid this place, go to the other million places to go in Kona.

Highlights: The server was friendly and lettuce was fresh. Around 2pm, I ordered two fish tacos at the happy hour price $5/taco). I was hungry and seeing that there were only a few other patrons, I hoped I would be eating soon. 30+ minutes later, I received my tacos and was disappointed to find that the fish in them were the size of a small finger. I think by weight, there was more sauce than fish.

Tourists, don't be afraid of this locals place. It does look a little sketch from the outside. People inside were great. Happy hour is a good deal. I ordered the fish and chips but the real star was the spicy poke nachos made with fried wontons that my wife ordered. A local beer and and dragon fruit cider? Yes please! We had a nice hour watching the boats come and go on their patio.Parking: You are in a boat yard so watch for things.

"We made a reservation here after arriving from the mainland and we were so happy to have this as our first meal after a long day of travel and it is midnight at home before dinner! The service was great and they had great recommendations. The Cowboy-Colada and Hibiscus heats (image Leelee-Limonade) were fabulous recommendations. Apps crabcake and gum were also pretty good. For the net we had pasta, I had the Cajun shrimp, fantastic and my husband the steakhouse. Would come back!"

"First time at Papa Kona’s. Our reservation was at 5pm. We were outside on the patio, very close to the water. It was windy, bring something to tie your hair back. Very comfortable though. Whitman was our server. He was super friendly and attentive. I had the Mac crusted Ono. It was delicious! My husband had the Kahlua pork sandwich. The house bbq sauce is so good. We had a beautiful view of the sunset. This place is all around great! Highly recommend."

"We made reservations for for our last night on the big island and asked if we were able to check in an hour earlier since we were in the area, the host was very accommodating to our request and sat us at our reserved seating which had a lovely view but was very hot at the time and asked if we could open up the umbrella, she asked her manager and the manager told her that we weren’t able to because of the wind… the manager did apologize and the host said we could choose any seat of our liking and we sat in a shaded area.. our waitress was not very friendly, she seemed like she didn’t want to be there… our drinks and food did come out quickly.. i noticed after being there for about they were opening the umbrellas and i was confused to why they didn’t mention that they would open up the umbrellas at a later time… we would’ve stayed sitting there and our waitress changed to a waiter.. which i found odd.. luckily he was much nicer than the waitress we originally had. food was moderate and service was ok.. need better communication"

"I was really excited to try this place. The reviews seemed great, but my experience there was moderate. The hostess and waitress were very nice. I have Poke Nachos and they could have had more ingredients. Don't get me wrong, it was okay, but I might have loved some mango or something else. My husband was really hungry and got her big mixed plate, but he still left hungry. Overall, it is a nice restaurant, friendly staff, but save your money. The price is much too expensive for what you get."

"My husbands company rented out Kai Eats for several days during the Ironman, so I got to eat here a few times. I experienced different levels of service over those days, from very friendly/helpful/professional to also a bit rude. I would say overall the service was good. The food was great and they have a good American food menu that also includes poke, fresh fish, Hawaiian-style items. The Mai Tai is great (but aren 't they great everywhere in Hawaii? , and I recommend the Coconut Shrimp and Lemon Fries as well as the Poke. This place is very casual and has a wonderful ocean view! Decent happy hour."
