"The food at this restaurant has always been excellent, as has the service. Even on the busiest days, the food comes out quickly. The main issue is the wait for a table, as reservations are not accepted and wait times can be up to an hour. It is a good idea to arrive when they open or during off-peak times. On this visit, both bathroom toilets were not working, which was a big inconvenience. The interior is beautifully designed with a pleasing Japanese aesthetic."

We absolutely loved this restaurant. Although there was a 30-minute wait, it was well worth it. We tried the fried oyster and teriyaki beef combo, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. My wife had the rock lobster and shrimp combo, which was also amazing. We can't wait to come back for more.

I have been coming to Restaurant Kunio for over 15 years, and it is still my favorite Japanese restaurant on Oʻahu, as well as one of my favorite restaurants overall. The food is consistently delicious, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant maintains an elegant yet unpretentious atmosphere. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

Yesterday, I had dinner for the first time with my sister at this restaurant. I am a very picky eater, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options available. I had an incredibly delicious ribeye steak that was cooked perfectly. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I would highly recommend returning to this restaurant in the future. Overall, I would give it a rating of 15/10.

"Busy busy busy is what this place is haha. There was a line outside on a Friday morning, and even longer lines when lunch hour was approaching! Note: If you order online, make sure it's for the day and time you want. I tried to place an online order but the order wouldn't be ready till 2 days later lol so that's why I had to go in in person to order my food! However, the line moved at a decent speed. I think I waited for maybe 20 mins? Once I got to the counter, the service was very quick as there were a lot of staff working together for different section of the counter. What should you get? That's the big question as there are so so many things to choose from. I highly recommend their shrimp stick with sauce (without sauce would be fine too) as that was one of the most delicious shrimp thing I've had! You won't regret it. For the poke, I loved their furikake salmon and the ahi limu. The fish was fatty and smooth without the chewy tendons. Both flavors were seasoned well without being too salty. However, I would avoid their wasabi miso tako (octopus) and their sesame tako as well. They're both overly sweet that they tasted kind of disgusting. The tako also wasn't very tender. I couldn't finish it. The is a place where locals and tourists go which explains why it's so busy! It's definitely NOT a hype. It's legit. If you're in Waipahu, do yourself a favor and give it a shot if you haven't tried it yet!"
