"Sushi Gen is my favorite Japanese sushi restaurant in Los Angeles and perhaps the world!!! I've been going to Sushi Gen for over 15 years. My favorite sushi cook – Kaz is still there and goes strong! I haven't done so much, but Kaz still remembers me. What I always do, in every Sushi restaurant, is Uni – Sea Urchin. Sometimes I get it with a raw quail egg yolk up to make it extra creamy. The University of Sushi Gen seems always very good. Another favorite – the halibut with the Ponzo sauce is also good. The absolute BEST Sushi. Always. Fish is always fresh, and there is always a great variety, including scallops, sea cucumber, yellowtail belly (my favorites) and more. I suggest eating typical tuna and salmon; that is definitely the place to eat outside the box. The mastery Sushi cuisine is charming and well-known, and the atmosphere is casual and friendly. Although expensive with a long wait, it is worth it.

Sushi Gen, the love of my sushi life for years... extraordinary and consistent quality and what a great value! $100 including tax tip for 1 order each: Uni Toro Halibut Yellowtail Ankimo Unagi Yellowtail Belly Salmon Roe Albacore Japanese Snapper Spanish Mackerel Spicy Tuna Cutting Roll 1 Great Sapporo ...and btw, this meal was shared with my friend so that the TOTAL bill almost exactly $50 a piece... although I seriously thought to make his service to Toro and Uni scream!

After all these years, I go to Sushi Gen. Trying for lunch, has to go back to dinner. The four stars are mostly for the great price. I have the $15 sashimi lunch. They give you many raw fish! The three different cuts of tuna sashimi were ok, not much taste, and the cut tuna was ice cold, really cold - not a good thing. The yellowtail was beautiful. There were also squid sashimi, spicy tuna, and some boiled items. Plus Elansuppe and rice. Many good (not excellent) fresh fish, a great value.
