"The Coalman has become my new favorite spot in Newcastle! From the morning coffee and breakfast to the evening cocktails wine and dinner the place is a culinary treat. Its small and comfortable and friendly staff there to welcome you. The food is fresh and creative. They make their own pastries daily , the bread is from Grand Central, the coffee is cafe Umbria. its quality all the way around. The woman who owns it has other restaurants in Ballard. She also grew up in Newport Hills and the name The Coalman is after the coal mining industry that is part of the history of the area. I wish them much success."

This is my new favorite restaurant near me. Whether it's breakfast (oatmeal, French toast, espresso), or dinner (pain au levain, olives, gem lettuce, delicata squash, braised short ribs), The Coalman doesn't disappoint.

This place is a hidden gem! The food is delicious, and I love that the menu features rotating items, as well as the baked goods. The interior has great vibes. I've been multiple times, and the food is consistently delicious! Be sure to check their website because they host events for wine, champagne, and dinners. This area has no brunch spots and the brunch items are some of their best. And there is plenty of parking.
