"The food is warm and yummy and quite easy on the tastebuds. As some have already mentioned, the food is very much comfort food . Great options for Gluten free crowd, and scant options for vegans (2 or 3). Many options for vegetarians. My table ordered a few dishes: Pastel Vegetariano and Pastel de Choco: Really, really yummy, and I highly recommend. There is a Chilean creamed corn atop a bed of sautéed mushrooms and onions. In the Choco, there is meat, and in the vegetariano, there isn 't. The veggie one is actually vegan, and I made sure to confirm with the waiter before ordering. Great pick if you like the taste of creamed corn or corn soup. Portion was just right to keep me satisfied. $1...

I'm not a food critic by any means but WOW! the food here is amazing. Had the Pollo Empanada and the Carne Mechada (oh and a Racer 5). I will put this place in my Friday night rotation.

I had never eaten Chilean food and what a treat. We had the waiter explain it all, he was very helpful and nice. We started with the delicious Sangria which was fizzy. The fizz reminded me of prosecco. We had the Cheese Empanadas. Carotas which are sweet fried plantains over black beans and sour cream. Chorrillana with fries, onions, scrambled eggs and tri-tip. We had the Panqueque Celestino for dessert which are Chilean soft crepes filled with Carmel milk and topped with organic vanilla ice cream. I will definitely return.

When this place left La Peña Cultural Center, I didn't realize that I would miss it so much. The community that built up around this place was amazing and felt good. I felt like I was walking into a Latino, South Berkeley Version of Cheers. I knew the people, liked them, was treated well, ate the food, and generally felt good. That good spirit and cheer left when they did. I remember the smile on my face when I noticed them on Solano Ave. I was walking to K2Go, wasn't even looking to eat something, however, when I saw the owner, I plopped down in a chair and ordered from the menu. The pickings are slim because of my gluten allergy, however, they are aware of gluten free and do have rather ta...

"I stayed at the attached Hampton hotel on business and was looking for a great dinner where I could dine alone. I was told by the desk to try this restaurant. I walked in and was astounded at how beautiful the restaurant and bar were, it was during the Christmas season. I was given a corner table by the hostess which I loved. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and was impressed by the menu (I have worked or consulted for some very high restaurants/retailers in Manhattan). I had a waitress, if I'm correct her name was Amy. She came off as very professional but in some ways sweet. She was a great waitress. She brought me my order perfectly timed from my cocktail to my wine to my appetizer to the entree and to the dessert. I knew I picked the right place when I ordered a Negroni and it was perfectly made. I had a great salad but I was most impressed by the cassoulet. I've eaten in Paris, Montreal, NYC etc. and it was probably the best cassoulet I have ever had. It was delicious! Everything else was also very good including my chocolate dessert. Unfortunately my espresso was poorly made. The flavor was there but not the technique. After my meal I felt so comfortable that I decided to stay a bit longer and asked Amy if the restaurant carried Amaro. She didn't know what they were and the bartender Peter immediately came to my table and explained what he had. To my surprise he had Amaro Lucano, a spirit from my wife's small town in Italy. Very hard to find. The bar has an awesome menu of wine, spirits and beers. He gave me the drink on the house and recommended that I try one of his drinks called a Boulevardier. It was excellent. Most importantly Peter was very professional and maybe because of my being in the food business too, he told me about the restaurant and gave me a tour. I totally felt his passion about his job which was great to see! Anyway he was a great bartender. In short, I totally loved this restaurant from its ambiance to its menu to its staff. Wish it were in NYC. Can't wait to go back!"
