"No cycling this time, but a long weekend in the winter landscape of Oberwiesenthal. When we found out about a Kiwi Cafe we just had to check that out. Ok, no real Kiwis, but run by some German NZ travellers, this place is definitely different...from the standard old fashioned eateries in town. Stylish look, silver ferns logos, NZ pictures on the walls and definitely one of the few good places for real coffee in town. Nice food as well that would make some nice lunch options, but unfortunately the place only opens up just after lunch. And they may need to make up their minds what they really are. A cafe, serving sweets, bagels and panini? A place for burgers? A cocktail bar? So is Kiwis pure? Well, not completely or could you image a cafe in NZ not serving a flat white, a piece of carrot cake or yogurt instead of cream? But ok, Saxony may be just a little to far away from Aoteroa."

"for a trip to nearby mountains. whether summer or winter, with hiking or ski boot. ideal as a grilling place with delicious lunch and dinner and warm drinks. or stay overnight, with breakfast and sauna. for ski and sledge there is a storage room. you can start from here on the fichtelberg, the railway or a bike tour. ideal for families. very clean and cozy."

"I was here with my son (3 years) and a friend. Prices are quietly high compared to the low quality of food and ingredients. The staff was unfriendly and cheeky. I can't recommend this restaurant. There were no coronations offered to my son and instead of asking him if he enjoyed his meal, he was asked, "Are these fries frozen? When I asked if I could pay with EC card, the answer was blunt: from 40 euros! The waiters said: I could also ask for an exception that I believe in this price range, this behaviour is unacceptable. The Turkish food stand would have been cheaper, friendly and better!"

"Small town pizza restaurants can be very hit or miss when it comes to the pizza. Everyone always have their favourite location and other places can never meet or exceed that. It's always a pleasant surprise to find somewhere that you would enjoy returning. Also...you can always tell a good place by the number of people eating there, and even though Picco isn't very large it was full. We had a nice meal and a bottle of wine with dinner. The pizza was a little different then one might be use to but it was good, and for mine with the hot peppers (peperoni) they had to be some of the hottest ones I have ever had on pizza which made it all the more better. Glad we stopped in and had the pizza."
