"Restauranteur overcharged for almost every item, see photos Two of us visited this Italian restaurant. Quality of food was mixed. The problem was owner/waiter overcharged for almost every item. Paying: I went in to the counter alone without my German friend. Obvious target being that I am a foreigner? Waiter/owner provided me a single, round number to pay, no itemized receipt. Number seemed in error: a round number and much too high. I therefore asked for the itemized receipt. He went to his machine and punched in data for a good five minutes. I wondered what the hell he was doing for so long. At the same time, I was confirming in my head that something was amiss. When the waiter/owner returned, not a single price matched the price on the menu, the cost of each item substantially inflated by about 20%! I asked for the physical menu with prices, and identified all of the errors, item by item. Under my watchful eye, he then—unapologetically—corrected every charge by hand to conform to the printed menu price, reducing the final bill by about 20%. Some discrepancies remained but I let them slide. All were in error favoring the restauranteur. I knew at this point that there would be no tip I normally am a heavy tipper restaurant employees are generally hard workers and deserve it, even if they are sometimes abrasive). Ironically, my tip would’ve been about 20%. No apology was forthcoming. I told restauranteur with a friendly demeanor that it would be correct if he apologized. He then, with reluctance, dutifully did so, pro forma. Quite an unpleasant experience. Beware: Foreigners can do addition! Beware! if you visit this restaurant! See attached photos. If interested in further examination, menu is on their website with prices as of today. Photos, attached, are 1. original bill with restauranteur's corrections, in pen. 2. Owner’s rewritten bill by hand. Note: restauranteur/waiter/owner are all the same person. A couple of other comments. 1. I ordered a Pils only option on menu: .3l for €3). He brought me an unordered large .5l) but charged me €6 then reduced it to €5.40 during the correction phase. 2. We each ordered a double espresso. No double espresso on the menu, but charged for four single espresso's, which is ridiculous. No restaurant does that. €10 for two double espresso‘s?! Note: although I am a foreigner, I speak OK German and it was no problem for me to address this situation, but not pleasant. My German friend was outraged. I dislike writing negative reviews, especially for a restaurant starting out with a new owner, but this was beyond the pale and I think it necessary that people be forewarned."
